I know it can be done with 'gpedit.msc' but its missing in vista home premium.! This thread is locked. You can follow the question or vote as helpful, but you cannot reply to this thread. It seems that Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium editions do not have the same level of Group Policy management that higher version of Vista or Server 2008 have. There is no gpedit.msc or 'Group Policy Object' snap in for mmc. Furthermore, it seems they removed those features entirely and there aren't any options for managing group policy the. I found several threads about users seeking to install gpedit.msc into the Home Premium version of Windows Vista which doesn't include gpedit.msc out of the box which eventually lead me to this blog post which references an installer for gpedit.msc for home versions of Windows Vista, however it seems they've pulled it for the time being as it. Well now, gpedit.msc (group policy editor) is not present for Vista home and premium edition. It does exist in Vista Pro (Ultimate, Business and Enterprise editions). You have to manually edit the registry in order to change group policy settings. Microsoft has an Excel spreadsheet that lists all the group policy settings there.

Maybe someone can take pity on me and explain this. I have a new Toshiba notebook running Vista Home Premium. I'm running as a stand alone user, not as a member of any domain. I've been trying to resolve a very slow shut down (10 - 15 minutes) that happens only from time to time.
Searching the net, I find references to things I can check with the group policy object editor. The programs recommended, such as gpmc.msc, don't seem to be available in my version of Vista (Home Premium). Also the snap in discussed some places does not seem to be available in my copy of Vista.
Is this because it's a home version? Is there something I have to download and/or install?
I suspect the answer is that I don't have Vista Enterprise or ultimate or whatever it's called.
I'll greatly appreciate any suggestions on this or on the slow shut down.
